The Dragon's Breath

This new body of work grew out of my exhibition Structure and Fluidity (Future Lab(s) Gallery, July 2025), where I explored the forces of nature through flowing movements of color. That experience set me on a new path, one that quickly revealed itself through a different palette and vision.

The paintings emerged in red, black, and white: blood and fire, light and darkness, with occasional sparks of blue, like fragments of sky breaking through. This palette felt urgently relevant to the state of the world today. With that awareness, the title shifted: The Dragon's Breath.

Dragons, in myth and legend, hold many meanings across cultures. They are creatures of immense power, equally capable of protecting or destroying life. With a single breath, a dragon can either create or annihilate. The dragon we are confronted with today is largely destructive. It is not life-giving, but a monster shedding blood, turning people and dwellings into ashes, blinded by greed, burning with rage, hungry for power over people and land. In this work, the dragon's breath becomes more than myth; it is a mirror of the world today. Acrylics, as a medium, allow me to give form to this experience of the present moment.

Yet there is another way to read this sequence of colors. In alchemical tradition, black (nigredo), white (albedo), and red (rubedo) mark stages of transformation. The final, red stage signifies purification: a passage through fire toward renewal, like the alchemical rose or the phoenix rising from ashes.

This exhibition, The Dragon's Breath, stands at the intersection of these interpretations: the raw destruction of our times, and the possibility of deep transformation.
